Composite bonding (also known as cosmetic bonding or dental bonding) is a very conservative dental treatment, used to conceal imperfections such as chipped, cracked, or discoloured teeth. Bonding is the process of applying and moulding dental composite. The aesthetic results of cosmetic bonding are optimal, and it is virtually unnoticeable to others.
Composite bonding is a flexible treatment that can be used to tackle a variety of issues – from closing gaps between teeth, correcting tooth shape and size to correction of cracked, chipped or broken teeth. It can form part of complete smile makeovers, restoration of decaying or worn down teeth and correcting slight tooth misalignment.
A Conservative Solution
Most composite bonding cases can be complete with a single visit to the dental clinic.
It is a conservative treatment which preserves more of the natural structure of your tooth that other treatments with visually similar results. In most cases no drilling is required at all – which also means that no dental sedation is necessary. When no drilling has been done, composite bonding is 100% reversible. Generally, composite bonding is suitable for most patients and can be done at any age – optimal gum health is the only requirement.
